Reds Clobber Orioles, 14-2
|
The performance of Pete Rose proved critical in helping Cincinnati beat Baltimore, 14-2. The Reds center fielder went 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 4. Joe Hurley got the win, improving to 5-1. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 4 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 11 and walking 1. Angell Tselikas closed it out for his 1st save.
Rose contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Cincinnati in the bottom of the first. With his team trailing 2-0, Rose took a changeup from Steve Dugan and stroked the home run to left-center. His 3rd home run of the season allowed the Reds to leap in front, 3-2.
"We got our butts kicked," said Baltimore manager Brandon M.
The third-place Orioles have dropped 7 straight games.
