Strnad goes 3-for-4 as Poppers Squeeze Past Belfast

The Cork Poppers licked the Belfast Zephyrs, 5-4. Herbert Strnad deserved a big chunk of the credit. The catcher went 3-4 with a home run and 2 doubles, while scoring 3 and driving in 2 for the Poppers. Donatello Torrisi, who is tied for 3rd in the WB in wins with 8, earned the win in relief. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 5 hits in 5 innings. He upped his record to 8-2. Cork is now 47-35, 5 games up in the Western Bloc Central.
With no one out in the bottom of the seventh, Luke Jenkins had a game-changing hit. The Poppers right fielder slammed a run-scoring single off Kazmer Lenart, making the score 5-2, Cork.
"It's always extra special to win at home," said Jenkins.
