Sausages Win, 5-2, Versus Vikings
|
Harold Verdier did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Iceland Vikings from being beaten, 5-2, to the Vienna Sausages at Ernst Happel Stadium. Verdier went 2 for 4 with a home run and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Vienna reliever André Molinier was the winner. His record is now 4-0. The losing pitcher was Corentin Lacroix. Marco Lopez picked up the save for Vienna, his 15th of the year.
Wendel Kwakman dealt the Vikings a blow in the bottom of the sixth. Batting with the bases loaded and Vienna leading 3-2, Kwakman, who is a two-time All-Star, hit a 1-2 cutter for a 2-run single.
Kwakman attributed the win to "a well-rounded effort by the whole team."
The first-place Vikings have lost 4 straight games.
