Istanbul Downed, 6-0, by BMDs
|
Istanbul had no answer for Birmingham BMDs starter Constantin Negurescu, who flummoxed Janissaries hitters as the BMDs cruised to victory, 6-0. Tural Dzhafarov picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 2-0. Pyotr Sahapov, the 7th overall pick in the 2045 draft, was tagged with the loss. Istanbul's current losing streak has reached 16 games.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Gunther Weil? The 25-year old second baseman Weil stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put Birmingham up, 1-0. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
"It's no secret that good defense follows around people who throw strikes," said Birmingham manager BMD Smith.
