Devils Thwart Rivers, 4-2
|
René Brunel pitched well, but the Crimea Rivers still lost the game, falling, 4-2, to the Budapest Devils at Devil's Trench. Martin Mahlke converted his 21st save in 25 tries. Budapest leads the Eastern Bloc South by 4 games.
The Devils got a big at-bat from left fielder Charles Dowell. For the game, Dowell went 1-3 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the sixth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 14th home run of the season gave Budapest a 4-2 lead.
Budapest manager Clif Maestro was pleased with the team's effort. "It was just a good, gutsy performance by everybody," he said.
