Conquerers Lose By a Run at Paris
|
The Paris Monks withstood an impressive performance by Madrid center fielder Sepi Hoffman to defeat the Conquerers, 5-4, at Old Notre Dame. Hoffman was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Kevin Charrier got credit for the win, improving to 2-3. He allowed 3 runs on 5 hits in 5 innings. The current losing streak for Madrid has reached 4 games.
Phillip Hooks had a big 2-run double for the Monks in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Paris leading 2-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a sinker from Wyszemir Wiacek, who is tied for 6th in the WB in quality starts with 4, and swatted a double to center. It was his 7th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Monks ahead, 4-1.
"It's good to win," Hooks told the Paris Citizen. "I like to have fun doing it."
