Poppers Fight for 2-1 Win
|
The Cork Poppers beat the Istanbul Janissaries, 2-1, in 13 innings. Cork first baseman Patrick Lecoq, in particular, had a fine performance. He went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and 3 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Cork reliever Burkhard Piel, who finished 2nd in the WB in innings pitched with 219.2 in 2044, was credited with the win. His record goes to 2-1. Pyotr Sahapov took the loss for Istanbul. The win leaves Cork with a record of 17-10.
Lecoq had a game-changing double in the top of the 13th. On a 2-1 sinker from Pyotr Sahapov, he banged a run-scoring double to left-center, giving the Poppers a 2-1 lead. It was the 3rd double of the year for Lecoq.
"That's baseball. You just have to find a way to get the job done," said Cork manager Scary Pandos.
