Janissaries Use Late Score to Top Monks, 4-3
|
The Istanbul Janissaries defeated the Paris Monks, 4-3, at Old Notre Dame. Istanbul was led by 26-year old catcher Serge Martin, who was 4-4 with 2 doubles and 2 singles. Eduardo Giusto got credit for the win, improving to 2-1. He allowed 3 runs on 5 hits in 5 innings. Paris is 13-11 after the defeat.
Istanbul needed the clutch hitting of Gustave Visdomini to seal the deal. The left fielder swatted a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Janissaries on top, 4-3. For the game, Visdomini had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"We scored more than enough runs this time," said Istanbul manager Ken Smith. "Now watch. The next game we'll probably struggle to get a base hit."
