Phillips Ices Crimea Offense
|
In a tight tilt between Budapest and Crimea, pitcher Sammy Phillips was a key contributor. The right-hander earned accolades for his standout performance in the 3-0 Devils win. Martin Mahlke earned his 2nd save, after closing out the game. The win brings the Devils to 8-10, an inauspicious start for a team that made the playoffs last season.
Phillips confounded Crimea hitters. Over 6.1 innings, he allowed no runs on 2 hits.
"Sammy commanded the zone from bottom to top," said Budapest manager Clif Maestro.
