Spirited fans greeted the Bucharest Crew for their clash with the Czech Swings.

The Czech Swings wanted a good start from Nicky Howell -- and he delivered one. The result was a 6-0 Czech win over the Bucharest Crew at Stormdome. Howell, now 1-2, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 3, walking 2, and allowing no runs.

It could have been a different outcome for Czech, had it not been for Tony Lasanta, the slick-fielding third baseman . Lasanta contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put Czech up, 3-0.

"I think we did a good job of looking for pitches we wanted to hit and put good swings on them," said Czech skipper em 367.

"Lousy" describes the Bucharest performance in the early going.
