On a Roll: Barnes Hits for Cycle
Mike Barnes did everything he could for the Sacramento River Cats -- literally.

The 25-year-old second baseman hit a single, a double, a triple and a home run for the River Cats, going for the cycle and helping them get past the Albuquerque Isotopes, 9-8, at Rio Grande Credit Union Field at Isotopes Park.

"Yeah, I was some kind of hitter in this game," Barnes reflected later. "It was like all I had to do was close my eyes and swing the bat."

In a game headed for the record books, Barnes banged out 4 hits in 5 at-bats and totaled 3 runs batted in and 3 runs scored. Speaking with the press about the feat, he attributed it to "a lot of luck."

"A triple is so hard to hit," he said. "To just decide to get one in a game when you need it for a cycle, it's impossible. Usually something weird has to happen, the ball kicking past an outfielder or somebody falling down. There's a ton of luck in hitting for a cycle."

Mike Barnes singled in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Mike Davis in the 4th, doubled in the 6th, grounded out in the 8th and hit a two-run triple in the 9th.

This season in 37 games, Barnes has hit at a .296 clip with 42 hits, 5 home runs, 27 RBIs and 24 runs scored.
