Kernels Win Round 1
|
Bobby Bankhead said he didn't even realize how well he had been playing in the Round 1 until he was shown his own statistics.
The Cedar Rapids Kernels second baseman put up a .357 average with 2 home runs, 4 RBI and 2 runs scored, enough to earn him series MVP honors. It all added up to his Kernels advancing to the Round 2, with a 3-1 series win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.
"I didn't really pay attention to the numbers or my stats at all as we went along," he said. "I'm just so focused on trying to help the team win, that's it."
The series victory had become official with a 4-2 triumph at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Even if Bankhead is not paying close attention to his stats, the rest of baseball certainly will be keeping an eye on him as the playoffs continue.
"I like to be under pressure and think I respond well to it," he said.
The Cedar Rapids Kernels don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Fort Wayne TinCaps - West Michigan Whitecaps series. West Michigan leads the series 2 games to 1. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
