Morello Sizzles -- Smokes Cyclones for 5 Hits
|
5 hits in a game has always been a big milestone in baseball -- 5 hits in a game gets a player's name in the record book, win or lose. Mike Morello got his name recorded today, but the Brooklyn Cyclones picked up the win at MCU Park, topping the Tri-City ValleyCats, 4-3.
"He bushwhacked us," said winning manager Jordan Wren. "We were lucky to come out ahead."
Morello spoke to reporters in the clubhouse following the game, saying his nerves only set in once he was on the cusp of the milestone.
"I got too much adrenaline going when I realized that this could be a once-in-a-lifetime day," the left fielder said. "I think the coaches could tell I was going to be ready to swing at anything close. That's why my third base coach told me to calm down and wait for a good pitch. That got me back on track."
Mike Morello singled in the 2nd, flied out in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 8th, singled in the 10th and singled in the 12th.
This season, Morello has banged out 19 hits in 54 at-bats for a .352 average with 1 home run. He is getting on base at a .417 pace and his totals also include 9 RBIs and 4 runs scored.
