Hits Galore: Clinefelter Drills 5 Hits
|
Erik Clinefelter knows as well as anyone that in baseball, the biggest contracts go to the biggest hitters. At Eastwood Field, he made his case to be considered among that group.
The 20-year-old first baseman hammered 5 hits in 6 chances, though the remarkable effort came even as his Mahoning Valley Scrappers fell, 14-9, to the Brooklyn Cyclones.
"We made some bad pitches and he took advantage of it," Cyclones manager Jordan Wren told BNN sportswriters after the game. "Thankfully, we were able to do enough elsewhere that Clinefelter wasn't the difference."
Erik Clinefelter grounded out in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off Andres Avila in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, doubled in the 8th and singled in the 9th.
This season, Clinefelter has banged out 41 hits in 125 at-bats for a .328 average with 4 home runs. He is getting on base at a .361 pace and his totals also include 25 RBIs and 10 runs scored.
