Cardinals Red, Vela Buzz Mets 2, 2-0 Thursday, July 18th , 2030 It wasn't easy but the St. Louis (DSL) Cardinals Red made it look that way. Starter Juan Vela shut out the New York N (DSL) Mets 2 despite having what he later called "sub-par" stuff, and the St. Louis (DSL) Cardinals Red cruised to victory, 2-0. Vela allowed only 6 hits and rang up 5 strikeouts but insisted later that he did not deserve primary credit for the win. "It didn't feel quite right today, but I got a lot of help to get through," he said. "I trusted my catcher and the guys behind me bailed me out more than once when I screwed up." This year Vela has worked 55.2 innings with 47 strikeouts en route to a 3-2 record and 3.23 ERA. View Boxscore |
