Medina on a Tear, Hits for Cycle
Saturday, September 1st , 2035
Juan Medina of the Seattle (DSL) Mariners touched all the bases at Seattle Mariners Complex in his team's 7-6 victory over Milwaukee (DSL), hitting for the cycle.
He teed off on Brewers pitching, collecting 1 single, 1 double, 1 triple and 1 home run. The feat is rare in baseball as it requires a game of no fewer than four hits and the unusual combination of a home run, which requires a batter to hit for some power -- and a triple, which requires a batter to have both speed and a favorable fall of the ball.
"The hardest part was the triple," Medina confessed after the game. "A lot has to go right. It's real easy to get greedy trying to stretch a double and get thrown out. It's really hard to get a three-bagger."
He finished the big day with 4 hits in 8 at-bats, 5 RBI, 1 run scored -- and a place in the record books.
Juan Medina hit a three-run home run off Juan Barcena in the 1st, grounded out in the 2nd, hit a two-run triple in the 4th, struck out in the 6th, flied out in the 8th, grounded out in the 10th, singled in the 13th and doubled in the 15th.
In this current campaign Medina is hitting at a .345 clip with 4 home runs and 14 RBIs.
