4-1 Win Gets Fayetteville to 40-36
|
Fans were not deterred by the threat of rain. They came to see their hometown Fayetteville Woodpeckers take on the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers.
Fayetteville Woodpeckers pitcher Alexis Rosario was all business, helping his team muzzle the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers, 4-1. Fayetteville reliever Alan Dimmick picked up the win. Fosco Colonnese took the loss for Kannapolis.
The Cannon Ballers had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Woodpeckers going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old catcher R.J. Wilkinson came to the plate. Wilkinson hit a run-scoring double on a 1-1 fastball from Kannapolis hurler Fosco Colonnese. It was Wilkinson's 9th double of the year.
"The effort we put into this one paid off," Wilkinson said.
The Woodpeckers go to 40-36, putting them second in the Central Division.
