Woodpeckers Take Tight Tango, 3-1
|
Fayetteville got a first-rate effort from pitcher Dan McDonald, who frustrated Salem hitters en route to a 3-1 Woodpeckers triumph at Haley Toyota Field at Salem Memorial Ballpark. In 8 innings, McDonald surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. Bob Scott was credited with the save for Fayetteville, his 7th of the season.
Ken Kelly delivered a big hit for Fayetteville. The left fielder drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Woodpeckers ahead, 3-1. It was his only hit, but it was a beauty.
"Clutch hitting plus clutch pitching usually equals a win," said Kelly.
The Fayetteville win streak is now 3 games.
