Bowling Green Sunk by Aberdeen, 2-1
|
Amari Polite was on the winning side of a pitcher's duel at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium. In fact, the Aberdeen Ironbirds right-hander was instrumental in his team's 2-1 victory over the Bowling Green Hot Rods. Ward Boutilier closed it out for his 5th save. Aberdeen has a record of 13-14, placing them 4th in the Northern Division.
Edgar Portillo had a big 2-run home run for the Ironbirds in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Aberdeen trailing 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from Bobby Larsen and swatted a home run to left. It was his 3rd home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Ironbirds ahead, 2-1.
"Good ballgame," said Bowling Green manager Giuseppe Chiaramonte. "But we came up on the short end."
