Rockies Get Clutch Win, 4-3
|
Spirited fans greeted the New York Mets for their clash with the Colorado Rockies.
The Colorado Rockies withstood a fine game by New York designated hitter Chuck Epping at Citi Field, to upend the Mets, 4-3. Epping went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Luis Nolasco earned the win. Colton Reusch took the loss for New York.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Jorge Mendoza? The 26-year old first baseman Mendoza stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put Colorado up, 4-3. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
After the game, Colorado manager Chris Fetter applauded the team's effort. "They busted their humps out there," he said.
The win puts Colorado at 2-0.
