The Midland RockHounds defeated the Corpus Christi Hooks, 11-4. Doing his part was first baseman Mike Claypool, who hit 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. David Malagon picked up the win, improving his season record to 2-4. He struck out 6 in 7.2 innings. The RockHounds raised their record to 17-15.

The Hooks had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the RockHounds going into the top of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old right fielder Juan Ortega came to the plate. Ortega hit a 2-run home run on a first pitch sinker from Corpus Christi hurler Mauricio Rosario. It was Ortega's 6th home run of the year.

Ortega expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
