The Tennessee Smokies scored a tight, 3-2 win versus the Montgomery Biscuits at Smokies Stadium. Tennessee pitcher Federico Montoya held his own in the contest. The victory puts Tennessee at 33-53.
Guadalupe Balcarcel hit a solo home run off Rayford Laughren in the bottom of the eighth, which put the Smokies ahead, 3-2. In addition to the homer, Balcarcel had 1 double, while going 2 for 4.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Smokies manager Stephen Fife. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
