Memphis Hangs 4-3 Loss on St. Paul
|
The Memphis Redbirds picked up a win at AutoZone Park, knocking off the St. Paul Saints, 4-3. Starting pitcher Jesus Mata played a key role in the triumph. Mata, now 2-2, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 5, walking 4, and allowing 2 runs. Earning his 6th save for Memphis was Ronny Robles.
The Redbirds got a big at-bat from third baseman Izayah Heath. For the game, Heath was 1-3 with a home run and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 11th home run of the season gave Memphis a 4-2 lead.
Heath told a Memphis Citizen reporter that the win made him feel "upbeat about our team."
Memphis is now 37-52, St. Paul 48-41.
