A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Altoona Curve and Binghamton Rumble Ponies.

Altoona pitcher Darrell Charles Smyczek did his part in helping his team defeat the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, 6-2. The opposition could never get too much going against the right-hander. Smyczek, now 4-4, was the winner. In 5.2 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 2, walking 0, and allowing no runs.

Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Ron Bove? The Altoona right fielder had a run-scoring single in the top of the first inning to put the Curve on top, 1-0. For the game, Bove had 1 double and 2 singles in 4 at-bats.

"My job is to go out and execute," said Smyczek.

With the win, the Curve improved to 31-32.
