Cubs Get Dramatic 5-3 Triumph
|
Wrigley Field was the site of some high drama.
Chicago ruined an otherwise fine effort from Devin Poock by toppling Texas, 5-3. The Texas pitcher threw 6.2 innings of shutout ball. Chicago pitcher Bobby Rickard earned the win, hiking his record to 3-3. Joseph Montalvo suffered the loss.
The defining moment came in the bottom of the ninth for Chicago. That's when Chris Bader hit a 3-run home run off two-time All-Star Joseph Montalvo to win the game. The home crowd went wild.
"Was I getting worried?" said Cubs manager Ryan Cody. "Nope." Then he added, with a wink, "There was never a doubt in my mind."
Chicago, at 37-55, occupies last place in the National League Central Division.
