Cincinnati defeated San Francisco, 9-5, in large part due to 2028 Most Valuable Player Award winner Oneil Cruz. Cruz drove in 4 runs. The third baseman had 1 double and 1 home run for the Reds. The second-place Reds hiked their record to 41-42.

Baní, Dominican Republic-born Jesus Cuevas came through in the clutch. In the top of the ninth, with the bases loaded and the Reds trailing 5-4, he hit a 2-run single to left-center to put Cincinnati on top.

"Put the ball in play and good things will happen," said Cruz.
