Oakland 52-23 After 5-1 Win Over Chicago
|
Oakland registered a win at Oakland Coliseum by beating the Chicago White Sox, 5-1. Pitcher Mike Walton was one reason why the Athletics triumphed. Walton, now 3-3, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. Oakland has now reeled off 15 straight wins.
The Athletics got a big at-bat from designated hitter Nomar Velasquez. For the game, Velasquez was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 15th home run of the season gave Oakland a 2-0 lead.
Velasquez called the win "an overall solid one."
