Chandler, Athletics Take Dramatic Game 3 for 2-1 Series Lead
|
The Oakland Athletics nearly wasted a strong game from starter Josh Chandler, but were saved by some timely hitting in a 13th inning walk-off win over the Kansas City Royals today.
Chandler pitched well in the 4-3 win at Oakland Coliseum. He threw 6.1 innings of 2-hit ball. The win allowed Oakland to seize a 2-1 lead in the best-of-7 League Championship Series.
Batting in the bottom of the 13th, 27-year old right fielder Ernesto Carrillo had a real shot to win the game. Kansas City pitcher Jeremy Marshall was determined not to let it happen. But with two outs, Carrillo hit a run-scoring single. The Athletics had a walk-off triumph.
"I found a nice groove out there," said Chandler.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Oakland Coliseum in Oakland.
