The New York Yankees got a stellar performance from pitcher Xian-gan Bian, who handcuffed the Baltimore offense en route to a win, 2-1, at Yankee Stadium. New York reliever Luis Cepeda got the win, raising his record to 2-2. Daysbel Hernandez was tagged with the loss. Katsuhiko Kasai sewed up the save, his 13th.

The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Gabriel Martinez came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Baltimore pitcher Daysbel Hernandez, he hit a 2-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting New York on top, 2-1.

Martinez told reporters after the game: "Runs were at a premium, so a good win for us."

New York occupies third place in the American League East Division at 28-23.
