Cubs Win Pitchers' Duel, 2-0, Versus Giants Orange
|
San Francisco (ACL) wasted a solid 7.1-inning effort from starting pitcher Ismael Vargas, losing to Chicago N (ACL), 2-0, at Sloan Park. The winning pitcher was Jonathan Santa Cruz. His record now stands at 2-4. The left-hander went 5.1 innings, allowing no runs on 4 hits for the Cubs. David Zarate picked up his 10th save of the season.
The Giants Orange had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Cubs going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old center fielder Ben Murray came to the plate. Murray hit a run-scoring triple on a 1-0 fastball from San Francisco (ACL) hurler Ismael Vargas. It was Murray's 2nd triple of the year.
Said San Francisco (ACL) manager Casey Patterson: "They pitched the heck out of us."
The loss makes San Francisco (ACL) 23-29.
