Velasquez goes 3-for-3 to Light Guardians Fuse
|
Both teams had their chances, but the Cleveland Guardians eventually prevailed.
The Cleveland Guardians beat the New York Yankees in a game in which both teams scored early and often. The final score was 12-11, Guardians. One of the hitting stars was designated hitter Nomar Velasquez. Velasquez, who finished 3rd in the AL in slugging percentage with .530 in 2030, was 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. The win was credited to 28-year old left-handed pitcher Ledel Pilat in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Tylor Megill took the loss. The save was Shane Baz's, his 5th.
With the game tied, 7-7, in the top of the sixth, Velasquez had a key at-bat for Cleveland. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, Velasquez hit a 2-run single off Tim Alexander, making the score 9-7, Guardians.
"It was offense that won us the game," said winning manager Luis Caballero.
The triumph makes Cleveland 17-13, as the team begins another long trek toward the playoffs in 2032.
