Myrtle Beach catcher Wally Soto had a big day at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium today against the Delmarva Shorebirds. The 21-year-old, who is not typically considered a big threat with the bat, went 5-for-5 and led the Pelicans to a 13-5 triumph over Delmarva.

"Hey, I'm as surprised as you guys are," Soto said in his postgame comments, smiling as he scolded the press corps for underestimating him. "Maybe I'm not so bad at the plate after all."

Wally Soto hit a solo-shot off Duany Gomez in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 5th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 8th.

This year Soto has socked 29 hits in 83 at-bats for a .349 average with 6 home runs. He is getting on base at a .427 pace and his totals also include 19 RBIs and 20 runs scored.
