Carroll Helps Diamondbacks Beat Phillies, 8-1
|
With left fielder Corbin Carroll leading the charge, the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Philadelphia Phillies, 8-1, at Citizens Bank Park. Carroll, who is tied for 5th in the NL in runs scored with 87, went 2 for 3 with a home run, a triple, and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. Zac Gallen earned the win to go to 10-9. He allowed 1 run on 6 hits, with 1 walk and 10 strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work. At 79-78, the Diamondbacks claim 4th place in the National League West Division.
With Arizona leading 5-1 in the top of the sixth, Carroll batted against Philadelphia pitcher Jakob Junis. Carroll hit a fastball to left-center for a 3-run home run. His 17th home run of the season put the Diamondbacks on top, 8-1.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Carroll told the Arizona Bulletin.
