Surfers Collect 4-1 Win Versus Havana
|
California Surfers starter Adam Whaley worked his magic, as he helped his team defeat the Havana Sugar Kings, 4-1. Whaley went 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 4, and struck out 5. His record improves to 3-13. Giovanny Machiavelli closed the door for California, picking up his 31st save of the year.
California used the timely hitting of Zane Schick to capture the win. The first baseman socked a 3-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Surfers ahead, 4-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said California skipper Colin Johnson. "I can't complain."
The last-place Surfers improved to 61-97.
