With left fielder Charlie O'Neal leading the charge, the Rome Centurions defeated the Amsterdam Dragons, 6-5, at Flavian Amphitheater. O'Neal was 3 for 3 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Danny Lopez got the win, improving to 5-0. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 8 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 3 and walking 1. Tomás Cordero closed the door for Rome, picking up his 4th save of the year.
Valentino Costocurta, who finished 5th in the SL in slugging percentage with .507 in 2007, helped out the Rome cause in the bottom of the sixth inning with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. For the game, the catcher drove in one run.
"We need to keep playing good baseball," Costocurta told the Rome Observer.
The current losing streak for Amsterdam has reached 4 games.
