Centurions Rebuff Dragons, 3-2
|
Fans saw a dandy of a game between the Rome Centurions and Amsterdam Dragons.
In a low-scoring contest between the Rome Centurions and the Amsterdam Dragons, 29-year old right-handed pitcher Alex Navarro proved to be the difference. The Rome right-hander earned props for his performance in the 3-2 Centurions win. The winner was Navarro. He threw 5.2 innings of 2-hit ball. The loser was Finn Balor. Greg Weaver picked up the save, his 1st.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Centurions had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the top of the fourth, when center fielder Frank Huerta hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Dylan Appelbaum and made the score 2-0, Centurions. Huerta was 2-3 with 2 singles and a walk.
"Alex is tough to beat when he's hitting his spots," said Rome manager Kurt Loller.
The Centurions go to 13-20 with the win.
