League Gets Last Word, Suspends Witt Jr. 3 Games
Sunday, July 13th , 2025
Bobby Witt Jr. of the Chicago Cubs has been reprimanded and given a 3-game suspension for a shouting match with the plate umpire during a recent game at Yankee Stadium with the New York Yankees. The Cubs shortstop said he didn't touch the umpire, but the umpire insisted he did.
"I didn't see it, I didn't feel it," Witt Jr. said. "I was trying everything I could not to make contact with him. The league always sides with umpires. There is no use to appeal."
This year, Witt Jr. has batted at a .287 pace with 111 hits, 25 home runs, 67 RBIs and scored 76 times.
