Pirates Win, 7-5, Versus Miami
|
Behind a solid performance from third baseman Coby Mayo, the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Miami Marlins, 7-5. Mayo went 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Pirates. Ben Joyce, now 1-0, was credited with the win in 1 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 1 and walking 0. Pittsburgh, with the win, is 2-0.
Mayo had a game-changing home run in the top of the ninth. On a first pitch fastball from Josh Hader, he banged a 2-run home run to center, giving the Pirates a 7-5 lead. It was the 1st home run of the year for Mayo.
"The key is not trying to do too much," said Mayo.
