Big Day at the Plate for Trout Not Enough for Athletics
|
Despite a great performance by Oakland right fielder Mike Trout, the New York Yankees defeated the Athletics by the score of 8-7 at Yankee Stadium. Trout hit 3 home runs. He drove in 6 runs and scored three times. New York reliever Derek Law snagged the win, upping his record to 2-1. Trevor Stephan shouldered the loss. After today's action, New York sits at 35-37; Oakland slips to 41-31.
Alex Verdugo, who finished 5th in the NL in doubles with 47 last year, took Oakland hurler Trevor Stephan deep in the bottom of the sixth. His 2-run home run put the Yankees on top, 8-7. In all, Verdugo had 2 singles in addition to the home run, while going 3 for 5.
"We won," Verdugo told assembled media after the game. "I guess that's all that really matters."
