A 3-RBI performance from Christian Encarnacion-Strand, who finished 2nd in the NL in slugging percentage with .564 last year, helped the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the San Diego Padres, 9-6. The third-place Pirates now sit at 32-27.

Pittsburgh needed the clutch hitting of Coby Mayo to seal the deal. The third baseman swatted a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Pirates on top, 9-6. For the game, Mayo had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
