Red-Hot Joyce Scorches Vulcans
Monday, June 15th , 2111
Conakry third baseman Eric Joyce could do no wrong in his team's 17-8 win over the Vulcans, as he collected 5 hits.
"Things were in his favor in every one of his at-bats," Vulcans skipper Jose Chavez said to the press corps after the game. "He got hitters' counts."
Joyce agreed, saying that getting ahead early in the counts was "the key" to his game.
"Once you get ahead, it makes it a lot easier because you get a better pitch to hit," he said. "You know the pitcher has to come in with it. And you're ready."
Eric Joyce hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, struck out in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Raul Salinas in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
This season, Joyce has banged out 65 hits in 209 at-bats for a .311 average with 4 home runs. He is getting on base at a .332 pace and his totals also include 23 RBIs and 22 runs scored.
