Columbia Triumphs in Round 1 Thursday, September 20th , 2029 The cheering could be heard all over Columbia as the Fireflies secured the final out of a 6-3 win over the Salem Red Sox to capture the 2029 Carolina League Round 1 4-2. It was the 3rd time in the team's history to win it. "The Red Sox are a good ballclub," said winning skipper Randy Flores. "We had to play at our best to beat them." During the season, the new champs compiled a 89-43 record in the South and finished in first place in the standings. "Anytime you make big plays, it changes the momentum of the game," said Chris Marrero, manager of the Red Sox. "The Fireflies made 'em and we didn't -- end of story." View Boxscore |
