Melendez Grabs MWL Reliever of the Year

At the age of 25, Anderson Melendez says he still has a lot to learn about life in Midwest League.

But he certainly seems to be a quick study, as the West Michigan Whitecaps reliever was better than all others this year and has captured the 2027 Midwest League Reliever of the Year.

"I hope to win this a few more times before all is said and done in my career," the
Barquisimeto, Venezuela native said.

For the season, Melendez had 3 saves in 35 relief appearances, which totaled 48.2. He fanned 66 betters, while walking 18 and put up a record of 4-2 to go with his 2.03 ERA.

He received 10 first place votes out of a possible 12. Peter Bonilla of the Great Lakes Loons finished second in voting with 2 first place votes, while Roelmy Garcia of the South Bend Cubs finished third.
