Washburn Belts 3 HRs Friday, May 4th , 2029 Anyone wearing a glove and sitting in the bleachers for today's Cubs-Storm Chasers game had a good chance at snagging a home run ball. Iowa right fielder Owen Washburn thrice sent eager fans scurrying to catch a souvenir, helping lead the Iowa to a win, 11-5, over Omaha. "Hey, the three homers were great, but I'm just trying to help my ballclub," Washburn said later. "I'm not going out there thinking I need another home run." Washburn, who is tied for 10th in the in doubles with 9, was 3-for-4 on the day with 5 RBI. Owen Washburn hit a two-run home run off Drew Beam in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Jose Berrios in the 5th and hit a two-run home run off Jose Berrios in the 7th. To date Washburn has chalked up a .265 average with 5 home runs, driven in 15 runs and scored 21 times. |
