The Detroit Tigers could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Tarik Skubal into a win. Instead, the Houston Astros prevailed, 3-2. Skubal threw 7.0 innings allowing 1 run. Matt Strahm, now 4-3, picked up the win in relief. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 1.1 innings. Jacob Webb earned his 7th save in 10 tries.
Esmil Valencia had a direct impact on the outcome. Valencia contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put Houston up, 3-2.
"Bottom line," said Detroit skipper A.J. Hinch, "we didn't play well enough to win."
The Houston win streak is now 3 games.
