Red-Hot Bat: Arias Collects Cycle
|
Roderick Arias was jubilant as the New York Yankees left the field with a win, 7-6, over the Houston Astros. He had every right to be.
The 24-year-old third baseman hit for the cycle at Minute Maid Park, had a 4-for-5 game and added 2 runs batted in and 3 runs to boot.
"It's too bad I can't do that every day," Arias said with a smile to reporters after the game. "It would do wonders for my batting average."
New York manager Tom Sullivan was "proud" of the third baseman's feat, but was not expecting it to happen.
"Cycles are tough because triples are tough," the skipper said. "As soon as the ball left the bat on that triple, guys were jumping off the bench for him. Honestly, I wasn't sure he was going to be able to leg it out."
Roderick Arias doubled in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Reynaldo Lopez in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, tripled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
This season, Arias has 22 home runs and a .249 batting average.
