The Cincinnati Reds and San Diego Padres obliged fans hoping for an exciting game.

San Diego first baseman Pete Alonso had a good game, even if his team did not. The Padres dropped a 7-6 decision to Cincinnati at Great American Ball Park. Alonso went 3-5 with 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Fernando Cruz recorded the save for Cincinnati, his 8th of the season.

The Reds got a big hit from first baseman Elly De La Cruz. Facing San Diego pitcher Bubba Chandler in the bottom of the fifth, De La Cruz pounded a solo home run to right. His 32nd home run of the season put the Reds ahead, 7-2.

"We take it day by day here," said De La Cruz, "and today was a good one for us."

The Reds bumped their record to 64-54 with this win.
