Guardians Stymie Oakland, Take 9-1 Win
|
At Oakland Coliseum, the Oakland Athletics and Cleveland Guardians were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.
Endy Rodriguez had a hand in Cleveland defeating Oakland by the score of 9-1. Rodriguez went 3 for 4 at the plate, scoring 1 times and driving in 3 runs. The winning pitcher was Thatcher Hurd. He's now 7-3. He went 5.1 innings, allowing 1 run on 2 hits for the Guardians.
Yordys Valdes had a big run-scoring double for the Guardians in the top of the second inning. With Cleveland leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a fastball from 25-year old right-handed pitcher Sam Stuhr and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 2nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Guardians ahead, 2-0.
"We took a roundhouse punch to the chin," said losing manager Frank Cummings.
Cleveland is now 41-39. Oakland is 24-59.
