Yankees Earn 6-0 Home Win
|
Jared Jones, who is tied for 4th in the AL with a 10.8 K/9 rate, imposed his will on the Blue Jays from the get-go. Relying mainly on his slider, the right-hander spearheaded the 6-0 New York triumph. Jones got the win, improving to 7-3. He gave up 1 hit and walked 4 over 6.1 innings. He allowed no runs. The win puts New York at 59-101.
Giancarlo Stanton had a big run-scoring double for the Yankees in the bottom of the third inning. With New York leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a curveball from Bowden Francis, who is tied for 8th in the AL with a 1.13 WHIP, and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 13th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Yankees ahead, 2-0.
New York manager Aaron Boone commended his team for "banging out a nice win."
