Mariners Absorb 4-3 Home Loss
|
Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Cleveland Guardians and Seattle Mariners.
The Seattle Mariners were defeated, 4-3, by the Cleveland Guardians at T-Mobile Park, even though Logan Gilbert pitched well for Seattle. The winner in relief was Cade Smith. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. He now owns a record of 2-1. Sam Hentges got credit for the save for Cleveland. It was his 5th of the year.
Mike Yastrzemski came through with a big-time hit for Cleveland. The right fielder smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to give his team the lead, 4-3. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Seattle manager Randy Knorr. "But we decided not to take it."
Cleveland raised its record to 76-63 with the win.
